Hunt a Killer – A Massive Multi-Player Intimate Haunted Game?

I’ve had a haunt-style game idea kicking around in my head for a while. A small team of players would be let loose on a large piece of land out in the woods somewhere. They’d have several hours to explore the area, search for clues, and try to solve the mystery. Maybe they’d first stumble upon a dead body and retrieve a map of the property. Maybe there would be a central cabin the players would need to gain access to. They would probably need to split up at some point to complete an objective, communicating via walkie-talkie (and certainly something…

A Study

I’m just going to leave these here.  I’m not saying a video is everything.  I’m not saying the Scare video is perfect.  But in this case, I think the videos accurately represent the kind of experience the designers are hoping to (and eventually do/did) deliver.  If anyone wants to discuss further in the comments, my Media Studies major would be happy to oblige. Haunted House Frustration

Over the weekend we went to check out our first haunted house of the season, “The Warehouse: Project 4.1” up in Rockville, MD.  Late September is a little early for Halloween activities, even for me, but we were able to get a Living Social half-off deal and were going to be in the area anyway, so we went ahead and kicked off haunt-season early.  I won’t go into too much detail as to not spoil anyone, but I would like to get my general thoughts about the experience out of my system. The marketing for this house had me really…

Haunt List

Haunt season is nearly upon us!  Since I usually put together a big Google doc of local haunted houses for my own use, I figured I may as well go ahead and build that list here for all to use! So from now through November, check out the new Haunts page for all the local haunted attractions I can find!  I’ll probably stick to the Virginia/East Coast area, but if you know of anything particularly unique or puzzley, let me know (I’ll want to know about it anyway!) and I’ll add it to the list. Happy haunting, everyone =)

Haunts on the Brain

It may only be August, but my mind is already fixed on my favorite month of the year — October!  I love the weather, fashion, and activities that come with fall and October, my birthday is in October, my favorite holiday (Halloween) is in October, and October means haunted houses!  (Haunted houses might not seem to fit within the theme of this blog, but I love haunted houses with all my heart, and I’ll be damned if I run a blog where they don’t belong!  Just file them under “adventure” with a small dose of “mystery” and let’s all move…

The Time I Stumbled Upon Britannia Manor Part II

This is Part II of the story, catch up with Part I here! We turned down the road that passes right by the construction site for Mark III, though it was hard to see much in the dark.  When we reached the intersection where I had turned around and left during my previous visit, we now found a man in a neon security vest with a flashlight.  We rolled down our window and he asked us what event we were there for.  That seemed like a weird question at the time (what else would we be there for?), so we…

Busch Gardens Williamsburg Howl-o-Scream 2011

Eyeball Roses

Nick and I took a trip to Williamsburg back in October to check out Busch Garden’s annual halloween festivities:  Howl-o-Scream!  At first glance, Halloween activities might not seem to have anything to do with mysteries or puzzles, but I think Halloween shares the same appealing spirit of adventure and intrigue.  After all, it’s a night where everyone wears a disguise!  And haunted houses are full of mystery (what’s around the next corner, and where will the next ghoul surprise me from?).  There might not be any puzzles or mysteries to solve, but the atmosphere is definitely in the same family.…
