Friday Round-up

Friday is here!  Looks like there are a lot of fun games and things to do at home if you’re bored this weekend =)   Comments Want to take a moment to apologize for my lack of feedback in the comments section lately.  My workload has increased recently, and I’m still adjusting, but comments are something I don’t want to let go by the wayside.  I’ll be addressing the backlog this weekend and putting some personal policies in place to reply promptly.  And a huge thanks to everyone who ever comments, I always love reading your insights on the topic…

Friday Round-Up

Happy Friday everyone!  Several events coming up as the weather starts cooling off (hooray!).  Don’t forget to tell me about any and every cool haunted attraction you hear about!   BAPHL 6 is Over And I didn’t go.  But the puzzles have all been posted online, so now I just need to coerce some friends into sitting down some Saturday to solve them on our own!  Brendan Emmett Quigley writes a few words about the experience here, and Eric Berlin talks about helping run the event here (both spoiler-free!).  Did anyone else go?  Sounds like there was a great turnout!…

Haunt List

Haunt season is nearly upon us!  Since I usually put together a big Google doc of local haunted houses for my own use, I figured I may as well go ahead and build that list here for all to use! So from now through November, check out the new Haunts page for all the local haunted attractions I can find!  I’ll probably stick to the Virginia/East Coast area, but if you know of anything particularly unique or puzzley, let me know (I’ll want to know about it anyway!) and I’ll add it to the list. Happy haunting, everyone =)

Friday Brain Dump

Some disjointed thoughts for today, still recovering from my crazy week!  Definitely don’t want to make a habit of this, but I’ve been struggling for the past two hours to come up with a puzzle or topic and I am just burnt right out! Been dreaming about puzzle hunts for two nights in a row.  Last night was about being on a team, not doing well.  We didn’t have a good game plan and I wasn’t doing my part very well.  Kind of a sad dream I guess, but mostly just made me want to be on a team and…

Friday Round-Up

Happy Friday!  Here’s what’s happening in the puzzle world!  And something exciting is happening in less than an hour…. Mystery Package In 1912, the mayor of a small Norwegian town sealed a small package and wrote on top:  “May be opened in 2012.”  Today, they’re going to open the package!  You can watch a livestream of the opening at 11:00am ET.  (They are taking some time, it’s going to be more like 12:30pm ET!)  Mystery in it’s purest form!   Real Escape Game in San Francisco vol.3 — Escape from an Angel As a part of the J-Pop Summit Festival in San…

Riven Re-make in the Works

My Reddit-savvy husband informed me of an Ask Me Anything (AMA) post happening today by a team of developers working on a realtime 3D port of Riven: The Sequel to Myst.  Riven is one of my favorite games, and this port project was news to me! The Starry Expanse Project, as it’s being called, is made up of a small independent group of programmers and artists.  Apparently the project started out in a “legal gray zone” but has recently received official approval by Cyan Worlds to move forward and make this thing a reality, with a bit of support from their end…

DASH 5 Coming to London and Puzzle Localization

The DA in DASH is about to get a lot more D!  London will be the first* non-USA city ever to host a DASH, very exciting!  Very international!  I’ll be interested to hear more about how this develops and whether or not they’ll still try to run it at the same time as the US cities.  (I think that would put the ending around 11pm or midnight?) This brings up something I’ve been thinking about for a while — puzzle localization.  I’m guessing too much won’t need to be done to adapt DASH for players in England (though America-centric puzzles…

WarTron Coming to Boston

On Monday, I was all excited to read everyone’s write-ups about last weekend’s WarTron Game in Portland.  Today, I’m all excited because apparently a team has asked to re-cast WarTron in Boston next year!  This is big news!  I know I just said Boston is “so far away” in my last post, but for a Game, I would say anywhere that doesn’t require a plane ticket is practically in my backyard! So far, no further details have been released about this potential re-run, but I’ll keep an ear out.  Does anyone know the last time a Game was run on…

Round-up My Thoughts

My brain is all over the place today, luckily I have this blog to help me sort out my thoughts! First of all, not puzzle-related in any way (unless you want to go solve this from last week), the women’s Olympic soccer semifinals are today and I am pumped!!  World Cup champs Japan play France at noon ET, and then defending Olympic gold champs USA play Canada at 2:45.  Both matches should be incredible, so now is a great time to tune in and get prepped for the gold medal match on Thursday.  I’m rooting for the USWNT of course,…

Friday Round-up

I bet you all can guess what I’m busy with today… Jefferson’s Lost Invention This is it folks, my first public Ravenchase Adventure!  Tomorrow, 4:00pm in beautiful Charlottesville, VA.  Sign up today and come have some fun!   Race Till Midnight More of a night-owl?  Try out the Race Till Midnight tomorrow night at 9:00pm in Alexandria, VA.  If I weren’t hosting my own event, I’d be there in a heartbeat!  What’s more thrilling than a race through the night?   The Great America Race The Kickstarter campaign is over, but the race is still on!  The Great America Race…
