Gemstone Puzzle

Today seemed like a great day for a new puzzle!  I got the idea in my head the other day that I’d like to make a puzzle that involved gemstones because they are so beautiful.  It would be really fun to do something with real objects (using fake jewels of course), but since this is the internet we’ll have to settle for digital versions. Can you solve my beautiful gemstone puzzle?  The answer is a word.  (Bonus points if you can guess which one of these stones is my favorite!)  You can click the image for a slightly larger and…

Bubble Puzzle

That’s a terrible name, but I’m not sure what else to call it.  I was looking through some of the puzzles from last year’s DASH, and there was a really clever musical puzzle that used a cool sort of letter bubble format.  I wanted to make a puzzle today, so I thought I’d give that format a try!  Does anyone know if this type of puzzle has a name, or if it was just invented by one of the DASH teams? Anyway, enjoy this Friday puzzle!  Made it on the fly, so it might be a little dicey.. let me…

SWYS Puzzle

Happy Monday!  We just moved to a new apartment, and only got internet set up about an hour ago.  Between packing, moving, and waiting around for internet, I didn’t hold out much hope for putting together a good post today!  But it turned out that waiting around for the internet guy to get here was the perfect situation to think up a quick Say What You See puzzle =)  I can’t guarantee it’s a good puzzle (and there are definitely a few dicey parts), but see if you can solve it!

Combination Lock Puzzle – Solutions and Analysis

Thank you so much to everyone who took a crack at my Combination Lock Puzzle!  I had a lot of fun receiving e-mails and Facebook messages and tracking everyone’s progress!  There was a great feeling of excitement to see who would be the five prize-winners, a race to the finish!  I wasn’t expecting that sort of atmosphere, and it was a lovely surprise. And thank you to everyone who gave me feedback on their puzzle-solving process.  I really learned some valuable things about puzzle-making and solving, and I feel confident that my next puzzles will be even better =)  Now…

Combination Puzzle Hints

It’s become clear that some hinting is needed for my Combination Lock Puzzle! I’ve been getting some great feedback on ways to improve the types of visual puzzles I came up with, so thanks everyone for being my guinea pigs! Now on with the hints, one for each visual puzzle =) As always, highlight the text to reveal the hint. Hint #1: Right != 12 Hint #2: The magic number may help on Left. Hint #3: SOS Congratulations to Jeremy for being first (and only) so far to solve the whole puzzle!  I think I’ll take four more entries for…

Combination Lock Puzzle

I’ve been having a fun week due to the fact that my husband Nick is helping me learn some programming!  I already know HTML, CSS, how to use JQuery, and enough PHP to find my way around most WordPress stuff (I even built a sweet plugin for a client over the summer), but I don’t really know any proper programming practices or languages.  Nick’s been wanting me to learn for a long time, but it’s hard to stay motivated just learning the basics with no application.  So I decided I want to make a little mystery/puzzle game, and that will…

Say What You See Puzzle #3 – Solution

This week I increased the difficulty of the Say What You See puzzle, adding a second visual element and making a trivia question about the two puzzle pieces.  Still nothing too tricky, but hopefully solving two extra little puzzles made it more fun! Here are the solutions for Monday’s visual puzzles: Puzzle #1: Sum (Wario)Ware Rove ER Dee-dee Rain Bow = “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” Puzzle #2: RAV Eeyore Shelf A Mary Little Kris Mouse = “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”   And the answer to the trivia question, what do these two things have in common? These two songs were…

If you manage to figure it out, post the answer to my question in the comments.  As always, hints at the bottom.  Good luck!
