The Secret World Goes Subscriptionless

Fans of this year’s modern MMO The Secret World have been expecting this kind of news for a while — the game is transitioning to a “Pay Once, Play Forever” model.  Despite tons of hype and delivering a unique, high-quality game, TSW has struggled to compete with 2012’s other big MMO releases, Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2, both of which were free-to-play on launch.  From what I’ve read, a lot of people feel that free-to-play is the “future” of all MMOs, and Funcom’s gamble of using a subscription-based model on the cusp of that change unfortunately hasn’t paid off. My Top 5 Favorite Secret World Moments (So Far)

It’s almost been a month since The Secret World was released, and I’ve been enjoying it immensely!  I’ve been trying to take my time and enjoy the scenery a little more than I did during the beta, and I thought I would share some of my favorite moments in the game so far.  It’s a spooky game with a lot of little surprises and details.  Enjoy!   #1 – Chatting with Deputy Andy (and other likable NPCs) Every action, investigation, and sabotage mission you pick up comes with a cut-scene featuring the NPC who is giving you that mission.  It…

Like most MMORPGs, much of the core gameplay of TSW is based around quests, in this case called “missions” in line with the modern setting.  The missions are split into the following categories: Story — Missions…

The Secret World – Templars Beta Weekend

I’ve been excited about The Secret World since I first heard about it, and now I’ve been lucky enough to get my hands on a key for this month’s beta weekends (though apparently you can just go get one if you sign up for GameSpot)! I’ve never managed to stick with an MMORPG for very long.  I did enjoy playing Ultima Online back in Jr. High, but I pretty much just ran around making furniture and clothes, never any quests or fighting or otherwise exploring the game.  My husband, on the other hand, is a big fan of the genre.…
